We’ve recently digitized a number of books on color in association with an exhibit co-curated by one of our librarians, Jennifer Cohlman Bracchi. The exhibit is currently open at the @cooperhewitt and is called “Saturated: The Allure and Science of Color” through January 11, 2019.

The source of this gif is D.R. Hay’s A nomenclature of color (W. Blackwood & Sons, Edinburgh and London, 1846) which includes a number of plates illustrating different types of colors.

See books that we’ve digitized with the subject “color.” We also highly recommend “Color in a New Light,” which was the inspiration for “Saturated.” It includes a digital library of books that the exhibit drew from, along with a selection of Benjamin Moore catalogs from our trade literature collection.
